A hand frees itself from a maelstrom of blankets. It reaches…catches only air. Reaches again…nothing. Frantic now, it palms the sheets. Ah-ha! And with a mighty *thwack* the alarm is silenced. Liz here, back from her death bed. So let’s dive right in. I’m going to pull some random photos and see what we’ve got…
Oh. Right. Well, yeah, the hotel left a little to be desired (see photos of the WOMEN’S restroom below), but, so what! We were too damn busy to worry about such matters and it was really only an aesthetic issue.
More Rockstar Goodness:
I just have to say, I LOVED THIS BAND. They were sponsored by kick-ass authors Erin McCarthy and Kathy Love, and I think this was the first time we’ve had a live rock band at conference. If anyone’s listening up there, *BRING THEM BACK NEXT YEAR! PLEASE GOD. PLEASE BRING THEM TO ORLANDO…AND HAVE THEM PLAY FOR WAY LONGER. IS THAT SO MUCH TO ASK? OKAY, I’LL TAKE A PLACE ON THE NYT LIST, TOO, BUT PLEASE GOD BRING THE IMPALERS BACK TO ORLANDO* There’s just something about a live band that really injects a lot of fun into a party. There’s also something about a live band that is totally into what they are playing. And there’s also something about a live band that plays awesome, danceable music that doesn’t come off every DJ tray at every “dance party” you’ve ever been to in your life.
Marianne and I requested Guns n’ Roses, people! And did they deliver some Sweet Child o’ Mine? Why, yes they did! Everybody was singing along and rocking out and Leanna Renee Heiber and I were doing a mean air guitar. So mean, in fact, that a crowd of people stopped dancing thinking we’d hurt ourselves. Marianne tells me there is actually VIDEO (what’s with the caps today?!) of this moment because she actually pressed record instead of snap. Hey, Marianne, can you upload that?
Okay, last one I’m gonna pull…Holy Mother of All Things Sacred.
Speaking of Leanna…did you know that she’s not just a writer…she’s also a card-carrying actress? Does this photo convince you? Should Marianne be frightened? Methinks the answers would be yes and yes.
Those are today’s snaps from the archives. More coming at ya soon… Liz Maverick
